Dispatch 002 · Imperium

The empire is built at rest.

Imperium was Rome’s word for the authority to command: not the crown, the mandate. The general held imperium over his legions. What the word implies, and what the gym forgets, is that command extends to the unglamorous parts. Supply lines. Winter quarters. Rest.

Training is the easy half of the equation because it feels like progress while you do it. But the session only writes the order. The rebuild fills it, and the rebuild happens after: in the hours of protein synthesis, in sleep, in the meal you either prepared or didn’t.

Most people command their workouts and abandon their recovery to chance. Then they wonder why the numbers stall. The body doesn’t grow in the squat rack. It grows in the window after, and the window doesn’t wait.

So command it like anything else you refuse to leave to chance. Protein on hand before you need it. A number you actually hit, daily. A source you’d defend if someone read you the label out loud.

Rule the whole day, not just the loud hour of it.
